The Photo

Rose-ringed parakeet in early morning sunlight in Hassan.

Story Behind the Photo

Hassan is a city in southern part of India in Karnataka state. I and my wife are born and brought up in that city. On this occasion, I was in my in-laws house and was thrilled to see many rose-ringed parakeets attacking a nearby tree for food.

Every morning I would wake up early and go on the terrace to make some photographs of these parakeets in the early morning light. But the direction of light was slightly awkward from my place and was casting shadows on their body.

I took a note of the neighbourhood building that would yield better result. With permission, I ended up on their building’s roof top to be watched by on-goers as they wonder what’s happening. I was with my 300mm f/2.8 lens and you could imagine what would go in their mind! They wouldn’t have seen such a lens in reality 🙂

Couple years back I wouldn’t have dared to take photographs while so many people watching me from the road side. But it was no big deal on that day.

The light was hitting the parakeets so very well that I was completely immersed in photography and made loads of beautiful photographs. This is  one of those hundreds of photographs on that day.

I like the pose of the rose-ringed parakeet with diagonally tilted tail and its tight grip. What a beauty!

Quick Tip

If you think some location gives you the best lighting condition  for photography, don’t hesitate to ask. The response would either be a “Yes” or “No”, but if you don’t ask then it is always “No”!
