Yes! It’s a full day field workshop for 2 successive days. We enter the park before the sunrise at around 6:30 am and will be there until the sunset!

We shoot at various famous locations that give us the best chance of making some stunning photographs. Also, we will learn to wait for the action to unfold. You will get to understand it’s not really about the equipment or the settings, but it’s something more subtle.

We come back to the hotel quite exhilarated, most often. Then we discuss for an hour about what went right and what went wrong. I will review few of your best photographs if I haven’t already done it in the field. Then, we plan for the next day photo shoot to improvise.

I like to keep my workshop very informal so that I can work with each one of you separately. I have found that throwing the same concept on everyone in the same language and same speed typically doesn’t work. Some are fast learners, some are slow, and some are shy. I try my best to keep everyone comfortable when it comes to learning.

Let me warn you. When it comes to teaching, I can go to any length to make sure the participants derive the most value. So, if you are up for learning a great deal about bird photography, then here’s a photography workshop for you.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT MY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Below listed is a small sample of numerous testimonials from my previous and ongoing workshop students.

I am really happy that I joined this [
3-Month Photography Mentorship Program] course. Though it’s been seven months since I became a student of this wonderful art, my learning curve got a great push in the last few weeks with this course. Prathap Sir has a very good style of keeping things simple at the core. You learn to get the basics right – the simple things which we often miss out when learning too many. I initially thought he would teach me camera settings… manual focus, exposure, different modes of shooting, etc. but he started with what I considered my best shots and then moving from thereon. In every session I get a detailed analysis of my new clicks and learn what I did wrong, how I could have made it better – in a way teaching me focus, exposure, different modes of shooting and the most important of all – composition. In a one to one session, I get his undivided attention. He can be very critical at times but also doesn’t shy away when it comes to praise.  With a deadline to mail him by the end of the week the clicks based on what has been learned, one is pushed in the field, to take shots, to compose rightly, to practice which I think is the only way to learn any art.

Thanks Prathap Sir for sharing things which you have learnt the hard way and making our path a lot simpler.

– Rajeev from Agra.

I attended photography course at Bharatpur National Park with Prathap as my one on one mentor from 19 to 21 st Jan, 2016.

I arrived at Bharatpur on 18th Jan cold and foggy evng. But warmth of Prathap and friendly atmosphere and hot home food at Iora guest house made me feel very comfortable.

Next two days of intensive photography followed with Prathap keeping a close eye and giving useful tips. I learnt many useful techniques of using my camera followed my composition, habitat, bird portrait and action shots.

On the final day whole morning was spent very usefully on discussion about using lightroom and photoshop.

After three days with Prathap I am very confident that my photography will go to next level.

Also enjoyed Prathap’s very informal teaching while still keeping a very close eye on my shots.

– Dr. Ragu from Saudi Arabia.

I have been on a few Wildlife Photo trip with some experts, but have to admit that the Trip with Prathap was by far the best. Being reasonably new to the DSLR world, Prathap makes the whole learning process very simple. The stress on Composition and exposure, has helped me to improve my photographs a lot . Prathap is very patient, and even answers some of the silly questions that we beginners may ask. Thanks Prathap for the great trip to Bharatpur.

– Sridhar Sivaram from Mumbai.

3 MUST-KNOW REASONS WHY PEOPLE LOVE MY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS

Below are the 3 strong reasons why people love my photography workshops.

  1. I think the first and foremost reason people love my workshops is that I dedicate my 100% time towards improving my student’s skills. Yes! 100%. I don’t shoot unless I want to show a composition, or I am on a long workshop schedule or a customized trip. This allows me to dedicate my complete time and attention to the workshop participants. After all, you have paid to learn from me, not to see me shooting. Isn’t it?
  1. Secondly, I teach in my trademark style – Simple and Practical. No technical jargons, no high-end vocabulary, and no-nonsense. It’s full of field tips and techniques. I take utmost care in helping you improve your bird photography skills. My goal is to make you feel it was well worth your time and money.
  2. As a professional photographer, I urge every student to get to a role of a professional photographer. I stress a lot on THINK LIKE A PRO concept. I think once you get the hang of it, you’ll never be the same photographer again. That EUREKA moment is something that makes me happy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

I have listed few of the common questions I keep getting from my workshop participants or enthusiasts. I hope you’ll get your answers here.

1. I may not be able to shoot for 12 hours in a day.

The beauty of Bharatpur bird sanctuary is that you just don’t feel the exhaustion. You are mostly going around on a cycle-rickshaw the whole day. Or, you are sitting in a particular location and waiting for the action to unfold.

You would hardly walk. What I have seen is, the participants who initially felt that they cannot do it, are the ones who were full of energy the entire day. That’s the magic of Bharatpur bird sanctuary.

Above all, you have complete freedom to rest at any point in time. There’s no pressure whatsoever.

2. Is it safe for the female participants?

It’s absolutely safe. In fact, there were 2 female participants in my earlier workshops too. There’s nothing to worry as the sanctuary has well-paved paths/roads and normally will have plenty of tourists.

I go with only a few of the most trusted cycle-rickshaw people who are like a family. They make sure you feel extremely comfortable. We are always there as a team.

I can arrange single-occupancy for you at extra cost. Otherwise, if you confirm pretty soon, then I might as well float a mail to see if there’s any other female participant interested in joining you. That might help both of you to share the room and the rickshaw.

3. I have a basic kit lens or zoom lens, can I come?

Honestly, I would say no. Though I am a firm believer of skills and techniques, then the equipment, I wouldn’t want you to feel burdened. You are investing on the workshop for improving your skills quickly as well as to get home some of the most beautiful bird photographs. Then, it becomes my utmost responsibility to help you achieve it.

It’s possible only if you have a decent camera with at least 5 fps and above. And a good lens with focal length of at least 400mm and above.

I say this because I have seen many participants cursing themselves because they failed to buy or rent a good lens. Most often they feel it because they experience what they are missing. They understand how critical it is to make the best of the moment.
